Dark Star (1974)

DARK STAR....the forerunner to ALIEN, made on a tiny budget ($6000!) by a bunch of film students including Dan O'Bannon, Ron Cobb and John Carpenter. The deep space ship Dark Star is on a mission to destroy unstable planets with intelligent bombs, one of which keeps threatening to go off every once in a while. To make matters worse, an explosion in the storage bays has destroyed the ship's entire supply of toilet paper. The commander is dead and stored in the deep freeze, but whenever the crew thaw him out he only wants to discuss baseball. Another crewmember is a daydreamer, yet another is a surfer who would rather be in Malibu, and the poor guy left in charge of this mess is convinced that he shouldn't even be on board in the first place. This crazy film looks much more expensive than it was and features an 'alien' that will make you splutter with laughter. More oddball aliens from Sneaky Elephant's movie alerts soon!
