The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

One of my favourite monster movies of all time! Doctor Maia and his team of wiggy natives discover a fossilised claw on the banks of the Amazon. Upon digging it out, the scientist finds it to be from a previously unknown species of creature. The expedition follows the course of the river into the infamous Black Lagoon in search of more fossils, but unknown to them there is a LIVE one lurking in the water! The 'Gill Man' spies the fiancee of one of the crew members and from that moment on has only one thing on his mind...and it ain't FISH! The scientists make several attempts to capture him, but our scaly chum is no pushover...This wonderful movie is a cut above nearly all other monster films of the period, from the excellent direction by Jack Arnold and atmospheric musical score (composed by Henry Mancini in his pre-Pink Panther days) right through to the star of the show, old Gilly himself. The costume is fantastic, and the scenes of him swimming and lurking beneath the boat convey a sense of rising panic and terror. A truly great film with a sympathetic monster...and the sequel wasn't bad either! More fishy flapdoodle from Sneaky Elephant SOON!
PS don't bother downloading the horrible, spam ridden Codec-C to watch this,as it's full of viruses. Instead, just make an account on VEEHD to watch this and many other great films in complete safety!
