OH NOOOOO! It's those two again from This Island Earth, Rex Reason and Jeff Morrow, here reunited against the wonderful Gill Man...except that things aren't so wonderful this time around. A bunch of so-called scientists capture Gilly but manage to set fire to him. They operate to remove the burnt scales and fins, and discover that he has lungs! They decide to turn him into a 'man', but this doesn't go down well with the fishy fellow, and all manner of ludicrous events ensue. Rex Reason is his usual wooden self as is the rest of the cast, and Gilly himself resembles a masked Mexican wrestler in a sports jacket. What a travesty! No wonder the character was sold to a Russian film company who made their own version of the Creature entitled The Amphibian Man (Chelovek Amfibya) in 1963. If I can find a decent print of that it will certainly appear on this page, as the story (Gill Man chases GIRLS!) and camera work are closer to Jack Arnold's original than the mushy mess presented here.
